It has been an abnormally cold week in north Alabama; I don’t know whether that has anything to do with this tale of woe, or not. I have a three-car garage behind the house, in which we park two cars.. On Monday, it was a three-car garage with three working garage door openers. ten or so years ago, when I was working in Chicago, there was a guy on the radio called “Mancow”. He was sort of a Howard Stern Lite, with a knack for street theater, not really all that memorable beyond the nickname. I had pretty much forgotten all about him before I read this afternoon that mankind now stands on the verge of creating actual mancows. of course, this opens the door to...

I was all hot to download the iPhone 1.1.3 firmware and try out the “pseudo-GPS”. I understand that Google’s “My Location” has been out for a while on J2ME, but I had my Treo turned off a couple of months ago, and the Sprint network has A-GPS anyway, so it wouldn’t have told me much about how good it would be on an iPhone on the AT&T network- which,...

I’ve maintained for some time that the geographic center of American racism has shifted north in the last fifty years or so. As a native Hoosier, this makes me sad, but I can’t say I’m surprised.
